Wedding Insurance – I Do or I Don’t?
Insurance. An easy YES when you are driving anywhere, or going on holiday. Something most consider when bringing a pet into the family home or wanting to protect a family heirloom. But, when it comes to your wedding, and the average ‘big day’ costing around £20,000, it’s surprising to discover that only 13% of wedding couples take out insurance.
After hosting a lovely couple recently, whose venue suddenly went into liquidation and left them without a place to celebrate their wedding, it made us start thinking about what exactly is covered by your wedding insurance and how easy it is to find the right one for you.
So, what exactly does wedding insurance cost and what does it cover? Well that all depends on the type of cover that you want. Take some time to work out the most suitable one for you, so that you know what’s included and what isn’t.
Wedding insurance can cover the largest part of your wedding costs, such as your dress and wedding venue and can also cover items such as your transport, your gift list, your cake, rings and even photographs.
Depending on which cover you have chosen, it can cover the cancellation or postponement of your wedding if you experience a bereavement, illness or accident within the main wedding group, of if one of your suppliers goes out of business. You should also be covered for any loss or damage due to theft and fire and this would extend to attire, gifts, cakes, flowers, photography, transport, marquees etc.
What’s vital when choosing an insurance, is to make sure you know what is NOT included in the policy. Getting cold feet or realising that your spending has gone way over your budget restraints, are not valid reasons to claim on insurance. Nor can you claim for something that you were already aware of.
We are not financial advisers, but we have met a lot of incredible couples and hosted hundreds of weddings here at The Great Barn. Whether you choose to take out insurance or not, is completely up to you and your own personal situation. All we ask is that you spend as much time considering it as you would any other part of your planning, leaving you to have the most incredible, stress-free, memory-making day for all the right reasons.
