This lovely Grade 2* house was once part of a 15th century manor built and owned by the Chudleigh family. Skipping on a couple of centuries, it was for the last 25 years home to the Birkins, during which time they gave it a full make over, using the bones of a beautiful ancient home to create a comfortable, contemporary house ideal for groups of family and friends to spend time together.
A separate Bridal Suite with its own entrance, vaulted ceilinged sitting room plus double bedroom and a bathroom complete with clawfoot bath, has an interconnecting door linking it to the rest of the house. The huge white painted sweeping staircase couldn’t be more perfect for a stunning photograph of a bride on her way to her wedding . . .
The remainder of the house has a further 5 double bedrooms including a twin on the ground floor. The Master Bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and dressing room and a double sofa bed. A third family bathroom serves the remaining bedrooms. Three single foldouts are also available to dot around the house should they be needed.
Downstairs you will find a large family kitchen with 4-oven AGA as well as dishwasher, plenty of fridge space, washing machines, etc. The generous kitchen table seats 12, the adjacent dining hall a further 6. Cosy up in the sitting room in front of the wood burner while watching Netflix, or stride out from the boot room to explore the footpaths, fields and woodlands on your doorstep.
We are happy for two dogs to stay, the house is very dog friendly being home to a number of Flat Coat Retrievers over the years. We just ask for normal house rules to be followed, the dogs stay downstairs at all times and don’t sleep on the furniture.
+ Double sofa bed in Master Bedroom + 3 single fold outs to be put wherever needed.
